Vijay Thalapathy Announces Entry into Politics with Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam for 2026 Assembly Elections
Tamil actor Vijay Thalapathy one of Kollywood’s most popular and highest-paid stars, has officially entered politics, putting an end to speculation. On February 2, 2024, he announced the launch of his political party, Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam. Vijay stated that the party would actively participate in the 2026 State Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and clarified that it wouldn’t contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections or enter any alliances.

In a detailed statement, Vijay addressed prevailing issues such as corruption and divisive politics in the state. He expressed the necessity for governance rooted in Tamil culture, emphasizing selflessness, transparency, and unbiased policies. The actor highlighted the importance of aligning with the Tamil culture of equality and the political traditions of the state that respect the Indian Constitution.
The party plans to promote its ‘Tamil Nadu-centric’ ideology and policies through public events post the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In the interim, Vijay outlined the strategy for party development, including the politicization of cadres, strengthening grassroots outreach, and democratic appointment of office bearers.
Vijay affirmed his commitment to politics, stating that it is not just a hobby but a “holy service to the people.” He expressed gratitude for learning about the depths and heights of politics from senior figures in the field. The actor intends to fully immerse himself in politics once he completes his ongoing film commitments, with his current project being “Greatest of All Time,” directed by Venkat Prabhu.
