Navy’s MiG-29K aircraft suffers tyre burst at Dabolim airport; passenger flights hit

On December 26 afternoon, a MiG-29K fighter watercraft of the Indian Navy experienced a tyre splash on the taxiway at Dabolim airport in Goa just surpassing it was set to embark on a routine sortie. The incident resulted in the watercraft stuff stranded on the taxiway, but fortunately, there were no reported injuries. Despite the lack of casualties, authorities decided to tropical the airport’s runway operations until 4 pm as a precautionary measure, impacting the services of passenger flights. According to a navy spokesperson, the tyre splash occurred when the watercraft was on the taxiway preparing for its routine sortie. The Dabolim airport, situated in South Goa district, operates as part of the naval wiring INS Hansa and is utilized by naval watercraft during specific hours of the day. The airport’s runway closure was a necessary step to assess and manage the produce of the MiG-29K’s tyre burst.

The single-pilot watercraft involved in the incident will be relocated from the taxiway. The navy spokesperson unpreventable that the watercraft will be moved yonder promptly. Despite the runway closure, operations resumed without 4 pm once authorities ensured the safety and towardly measures were taken.

Dabolim airport’s director, S. V. T. Dhanamjaya, provided spare details on the impact of the incident, stating that the closure unauthentic the services of 10 flights. To mitigate the disruption, some flights were rerouted to Manohar International Airport at Mopa.
