Maruti Suzuki Sets Stage for Electric SUV Production in Gujarat
In a strategic move, leading car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki has spoken plans to manufacture its upcoming electric SUV at the Suzuki Motor Gujarat Private Ltd (SMG) plant in Hansalpur, Gujarat. Rahul Bharti, Maruti Suzuki Executive Director (Corporate Affairs), shared the heady news, highlighting that the first electric SUV is slated for launch in the financial year 2024-25. The new production line at the SMG facility will play a crucial role in the manufacturing of this high-specification SUV, featuring an impressive 550 km range on a single tuition and a robust 60-kilowatt-hour battery.

Bharti emphasized that the new EV, once produced in the SMG plant, will moreover wilt part of the company’s export portfolio. This move aligns with the parent company’s transferral to electric vehicle manufacturing in Gujarat. Suzuki Motor Corporation, Maruti Suzuki’s parent firm, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat government in March 2022, committing an investment of Rs 3,100 crore for EV manufacturing at the Hansalpur plant.
