INS Imphal: Navy to commission indigenous stealth-guided missile destroyer in Mumbai
Mumbai, December 26: In a significant stride towards bolstering its naval capabilities, the Indian Navy is set to legation its latest stealth-guided missile destroyer, ‘INS Imphal,’ in a recurrence at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai today. The journey of INS Imphal commenced on May 19, 2017, with the laying of its keel, and it was launched into the water on April 20, 2019. Following rigorous and comprehensive trials both in the harbor and at sea, the ship was delivered to the Indian Navy on October 20, underscoring its readiness for operational duties.
Equipped with state-of-the-art weapons and sensors, INS Imphal boasts a formidable variety of capabilities. Its shrapnel includes medium-range surface-to-air missiles, BrahMos surface-to-surface missiles, ethnic torpedo tube launchers, anti-submarine ethnic rocket launchers, and a 76mm super rapid gun mount. The ship’s Anti-Submarine Warfare capabilities are bolstered by indigenously ripened Rocket Launchers, Torpedo Launchers, and ASW helicopters.
A highlight of INS Imphal’s features is its modern surveillance radar, providing crucial target data to the ship’s gunnery weapon systems. The warship is designed to operate under Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical (NBC) warfare conditions, remoter attesting to its wide gainsay capabilities and survivability.
Designed by the Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau and synthetic by M/s Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL), INS Imphal stands as a collaborative effort with significant contributions from the public and private sectors, including MSMEs, and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
