Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Initiates Recall for H’ness CB350 and CB350RS: Here’s why

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has announced a recall for a specific number of H’ness CB350 and CB350RS units to address potential issues related to faulty parts. The recall is prompted by the identification of an improper process used in manufacturing the rubber parts of the rear stoplight switch, leading to the possibility of crack development in the rubber.

The company highlighted that this flaw could result in water entry and corrosion inside the switch, causing the rear stoplight to malfunction. Units produced between October 2020 and January 2023 are affected, although the exact number of affected units has not been disclosed by HMSI.

In a statement, HMSI explained, “It was observed that a gap might occur in the sensor body sealing which may cause water entry inside the bank angle sensor. This leads to chances of possible sensor malfunction and vehicle stalling in the worst situation. Units manufactured between October 2020 to December 2021 are affected.”

As a precautionary measure, the replacement of the affected parts will be conducted at BigWing dealerships across India, starting from the second week of December 2023. Importantly, HMSI assured that the replacement would be performed at no cost to the vehicle owner, regardless of the warranty status.

Issues Leading to Recall:

  1. Faulty Rear Stoplight Switch:
    • Due to an improper process in manufacturing the rubber parts of the rear stoplight switch, cracks may develop, allowing water entry and corrosion inside the switch.
    • Affected Units: H’ness CB350 and CB350RS manufactured between October 2020 and January 2023.
  2. Bank Angle Sensor Concern:
    • A gap might occur in the sensor body sealing, leading to potential water entry inside the bank angle sensor.
    • This could result in a sensor malfunction and, in extreme cases, vehicle stalling.
    • Affected Units: H’ness CB350 and CB350RS manufactured between October 2020 and December 2021.

Recall Process and Vehicle Owners’ Guidance:

HMSI recommends affected vehicle owners to visit the Honda BigWing website, where they can find the ‘Recall Campaign’ option on the homepage. By selecting their motorcycle model and entering the 17-digit VIN/chassis number, owners can check if their vehicle is affected by either or both issues.

Vehicle owners are advised to schedule a prior appointment before visiting the dealership for the replacement, which is expected to take approximately one hour. Importantly, HMSI emphasizes that the replacement will be conducted free of charge, regardless of the warranty status of the motorcycle.

The recall, initiated as a precautionary measure, underscores HMSI’s commitment to addressing potential safety concerns and ensuring the well-being of its customers.
