Heavy Rainfall Paralyzes Chennai; Schools and Colleges Closed

In the wake of unabated rainfall triggered by Cyclone Michaung, the Chennai district in Tamil Nadu is grappling with severe disruptions. The state government spoken today that all schools and colleges in the Chennai district will remain sealed on Friday due to heavy rainfall and the resultant chaos.
 
The downpour, exacerbated by Cyclone Michaung, has led to widespread flooding in several regions of Chennai, ultimatum six lives on Wednesday alone, as reported by officials. The municipality has come to a standstill, with heavy rains causing wide-stretching forfeiture and disruption to normal life.
 
Power cuts have remoter compounded the challenges faced by the residents of Chennai district. Southern Railways took precautionary measures by canceling 15 trains on Thursday due to the heavy rainfall and waterlogging in the region. However, suburban trains in Chennai Central, including those from Arakkonam, Chennai Beach-Chengalpattu, and Chintadripet-Velachery (MRTS) sections, are expected to operate as per their scheduled timings.
 
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh conducted an well-ventilated survey of the waterlogged areas in Tamil Nadu today. Following the survey, he held discussions with Chief Minister MK Stalin to assess the extent of the forfeiture caused by the ripply weather. Speaking to the media, Minister Singh stated, “I took an well-ventilated survey followed by a one-to-one meeting with the Chief Minister and a review meeting with the concerned officials. Together, we are putting up an constructive response to the situation here, and hopefully, we will modernize it further.”
 
In a significant development, the inside government has tried a ₹561.29 crore urban inflowing mitigation project for ‘Integrated Urban Inflowing Management’ activities under the Chennai Basin project. An value of ₹450 crore has been allocated to Tamil Nadu, emphasizing the need for urgent support in dealing with the produce of the cyclonic storm. Andhra Pradesh moreover received ₹493.60 crore from the inside government for relief efforts.
 
As Chennai battles the produce of Cyclone Michaung, concerted efforts are underway to unstrap the impact and restore normalcy to the lives of its residents. The government is urgently engaged in providing necessary assistance and resources to mitigate the challenges posed by the heavy rainfall and flooding.
