Hardik Pandya Eyeing Comeback for T20 Home Series Against Afghanistan: BCCI Secretary Jay Shah

Hardik Pandya is anticipated to make a comeback from his ankle injury and participate in the T20 home series against Afghanistan starting on January 11, as per BCCI Secretary Jay Shah. While there’s speculation about Rohit Sharma leading India in the T20 World Cup in June, Shah stated that no decision has been made yet.

Pandya, currently undergoing rehab for his injury sustained during the ODI World Cup, might return sooner than expected. Shah mentioned, “He could be fit before the Afghanistan series.” The secretary emphasized monitoring Pandya’s progress and providing updates as he nears fitness.

Regarding Rahul Dravid and his support staff, Shah mentioned they have been given extensions, but contracts are yet to be finalized. He highlighted the ongoing discussions and mutual agreement to continue their roles.

Addressing the venue choice for women’s cricket in Mumbai, Shah explained logistical considerations, affirming it’s a joint decision between franchises and the BCCI. The Women’s Premier League second season is likely to be held in Mumbai again, offering three stadiums for matches.

Shah assured equality in hosting the Men’s and Women’s ICC World Cups, emphasizing that both tournaments would receive the same treatment. Responding to the absence of pink-ball Tests for the men’s team, he suggested an increased interest in public engagement to extend the duration of matches, expressing openness to gradually introduce more pink-ball Tests in the future.
