KPIT Technologies Unleashes Game-Changing Sodium-Ion Battery For EVs

Pune-based KPIT Technologies has emerged as a frontrunner in the pursuit of an volitional to the prevailing lithium-ion shower technology. After eight years of development, the visitor unveiled its sodium-ion battery, poised to revolutionize the electric vehicle (EV) landscape. The sodium-ion shower boasts a remarkable forfeit advantage, potentially stuff “up to 30% cheaper than a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.” This innovation allows the shower to tuition rapidly, reaching “almost 100% in 20 minutes, and still maintain a long life.” Ravi Pandit, co-founder and chairman of KPIT Technologies, emphasized that the technology has completed rigorous internal testing and is set for the next phase, involving trials by customers over the next 6-12 months, paving the way for commercial production. With the burgeoning demand for EVs, coupled with lithium scarcity and supply uniting challenges, sodium-ion shower technologies are gaining prominence. KPIT Technologies’ sodium-ion battery, expected to be licensed within the next 12-18 months, could potentially capture a significant market share, with 4,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of Shower Energy Storage System (BESS) projects slated for minutiae by FY31. Pandit asserted that KPIT is the first visitor in India and among a select few globally to possess a matured technology solution for sodium-ion batteries. This innovative technology promises a global impact, competing with major players like China’s Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) and BYD, which are moreover investing in sodium-ion shower technologies. The evolving landscape of shower technologies, expressly sodium-ion, marks a potential turning point in the transportation sector’s energy mix.
